Major characters
Romeo
Rome is the son of Lord and Lady Montague, on of the two families who are feuding. He falls in love with Juliet, a Montague. His friends include Mercutio, and Benvolio. He is constantly alone and in the dark until he finds Juliet. He is one of Shakespeare’s main characters in Romeo and Juliet.
Juliet
Juliet is a Capulet who falls in love with Romeo, a Montague. Her cousin, Tybalt, is enemies with Romeo, who hates him for loving Juliet. The Nurse is like a mother to Juliet and also her best friend.
Prince of Verona
As the Prince of Verona, the Prince acts as a police chief and is the number one authority of Verona. He cracks down on the Montague’s and Capulet’s and tells them if they fight again he'll kill them . He is related in a way to Mercutio, one of Romeo’s close friends.
Mercutio
One of Shakespeare’s more memorable characters, Mercutio is neither a Montague nor Capulet, but instead he is related to the Prince of Verona. He is best friends with Romeo, a Montague. Mercutio's monologue about Queen Mab is one of the more memorable monologues in the play.
Friar Laurence
Friar Laurence is a character who if you pay close enough attention to what he has to say, he foreshadows much of what is to come. He aids Romeo and Juliet in more ways than one, and makes him a very important character.
Minor Characters
The Montagues
The Montague’s are one of the rivaling families which consist of the Montague’s and Capulet’s. Their son, Romeo, falls in love with the Capulet’s daughter, Juliet.

The Capulets
The Capulet’s are one of the rivaling families which consist of the Montague’s and Capulet’s. Their daughter, Juliet, falls in love with the Montague’s son, Romeo.
Paris
Paris is a friend of the Capulet’s who wants to marry Juliet, their daughter, and is a good friend of Lord Capulet.
Servants
The servants are the hired help that each family employs to aid them. The feud that the Montague’s and Capulet’s have goes far enough that even the house's servants fight.
Apothecary
The Apothecary is the equivalent to a Pharmacist. They distribute medicines, and in Romeo's case poisons.
